2015 Toshihide Numata Book Award

Friday, October 30, 2015. During a ceremony at the Alumni House, the Center for Buddhist Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and Bukkyō Dendō Kyōkai (Numata Foundation) presented the 2015 Toshihide Numata Book Award to Professors Lothar Ledderose (Heidelberg University) and Sun Hua (Peking University), for Buddhist Stone Sutras in China — Sichuan Province 1 (Harrassowitz Verlag, 2014).

This event included introductory remarks by Professor Robert Sharf (UC Berkeley), the presentation of the award by Reverend Brian Nagata (Bukkyō Dendō Kyōkai) on behalf of Mr. Toshihide Numata, keynotes by Lothar Ledderose and Sun Hua and a symposium on "Buddhist Stone Sutras in China," chaired by Alexander von Rospatt (UC Berkeley), with presentations by Lothar Ledderose, Martin Bemmann, Claudia Wenzel, Manuel Sassmann and Dame Jessica Rawson, all affiliated with the Stone Sutra Research Project at the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences, as well as Ryan Overbey (Wesleyan University), and Dorothy C. Wong (University of Virgina).
